Tool 11: Reflections

1. My favorite tool was Skype - so much fun. I have already set up a science lesson with another teacher and we will be doing a lesson together very soon.

2. This process of 11 Tools has shown me that there is a lot of technology out there to be used and if I don't get on board the technology train is going to leave me at the station. I am ready to try some new thing with my students.

3. I had no idea what a "Wiki" was and I was surprised how much information is really out their for us to use.

Tool 11

Digital Citizenship

Three Things I would want to make sure my students understood about being a good digital citizen.
1. Be nice and respectful in the online world
2. Be careful not to give out your name, address, phone number, or the school you attend.
3. Tell an adult if you feel uncomfortable about any message you receive online.

The best way I feel that I could teach digital citizenship to my students is on "BrainPOP".

Here is just a few they have for you:
Digital Etiquette
Online Safety
Information Privacy
Social Networking
Cyberbullying.

Tool 10

Apps - first of all love, love, love the iTouch.

Since I teach science I reviewed science apps.
Here are the ones I loved......
* BrainPOP - it was great for all subjects
* NASA
* Space Images - NASA
* NASA 3D Sun

The iTouch in class is going to be great in enhancing the lesson you are teaching.
It could help with early finishers are ESL students that need a little extra help.
The best part is with BrainPOP - you are teaching a lesson on Matter - you could have the iTouch for a center that students could go learn more about the subject.

Tool 9

Screencast is a great tool for students and teachers. As a teacher, we can create screencast to help supplement instruction. Students can create screencast to teach others how to do different tasks on the computer.

Jing was good but I had to download the program and it pops up all the time on my computer- so to be honest it was not my favorite.

Skype is my FAVORITE!! Love it!!
We have a colleague that is out on maternity leave and we Skyped her in for conferences.
I have used Skype with a school in Alabama and we shared a science lesson on chemical changes - it was great!!

Tool 8

Tool 8 - Video Resources is a great tool to use in the classroom.

The first one I found was from USA Today about the International Space Station - it is so cool because it shows how it has grown over the years.

The second video I found was form School Tube - a great rap video on the Scientific Method. I already shared it with my class and they loved it!!

Space Station

Look at what happened from 1998 until 2008. In just ten years it has grown and grown.
Watch the pieces come together as they are sent up from Earth. This is the International Space Station (ISS) Assembly diagram, piece by piece.
I had no idea the Space Station had grown to this size.
This is really cool.....

Tool 7

Photo Story is unbelievable. I can't believe I just made this cool video on the sun.

The funny thing is it was way easy!!

The students could make their own photo stories on our next science unit.

Love it!!

Tool 6

Wikis

Well I am embarrased to admit that I did not know that Wikipedia was a Wiki. So, 11 Tools is doing it's job by teaching me so much.......

Now that I know what a "wiki" is I checked out the "Curriculum Wiki" on the Library Resource Page. It had a lot of information......I Pad info, Photostory and how it works, and so much more.

The "Wiki" would be a great tool to use in science lab when the students are doing an experiment. Students could put down information they are learning then share with other students using the wiki.

Love it!!

Tool 5

I have found two websites that I have bookmarked on "Diigo"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/ks3bitesize/science/

http://http://www.livemocha.com/

Social bookmarking can be such a great tool to us in the classroom.

The Live Mocha website is great. I am trying to learn a new language and this website is wonderful. We also have several students in our class that could benefit from this website with the language barrier.

The science website KS3 Bitesize is great for review. The site gives students a chance to revise, then an activity, then a test. Great site.

Tool 4

Google Docs - wow this is going to be so cool to use with the students. I uploaded lab notes to all the fifth grade students. After each science lab, I will upload the notes from that day.

Google Reader - love that you can add a subscription to a blog and get updates on one page about all the blogs you are following. I love seeing what others have posted and the commets.

I am learning so much from 11 Tools - it is like shoe shopping in New York City there is a treasure in every store.

Tool 3

S C i E N letter C letter E

Wow....what fun generators.
I love Spell with Flickr the students would love using science words and making them different.
I will use "Word It Out" all the time. It will work so well with science vocabulary words that we have each week in lab. What a fun why for students to make a word wall.

I enjoyed Tool 3.

Tool 2

Professional Learning Community:

Having a PLN is of great benefit for teachers wanting to grow and expand their knowledge base.
I find that when I have a group of teachers to share ideas with, I learn new and exciting ways to be a better teacher.

Commenting:
I love what Cool Cat Teacher had to say about commenting. Making comments that are relevant and personal to the blogger are great ideas.

My five blogs that I am following are:
Dorothy Bean http://dorothybean.blogspot.com/
Math Rules http://seracentanni.blogspot.com/
Robin Carpenter - http://laladylowdown.blogspot.com
Journal That-BHEhttp://journalthatbhe.blogspot.com/
Book Nookhttp://thebknook.blogspot.com/

Tool 1

Setting up my blog is so much fun.....
